KONA DROPS HER DEBUT EP ‘JAMAIS VU’

Inviting listeners on a sonic journey through mystical soundscapes

Juxtaposed against the myriad of its counterparts confined to the dance music genre, Kona’s latest effort is a genuine ear-candy. The Seoul-based producer/DJ have made her first album imbued with sensual emotions, mystical soundscapes and elements of house music, an idea that the artist has been honing through her previous releases with BOOTCAMP collective. ‘Jamais Vu’ is an invitation to the mystical world she’s creating, a theme delivered by collaborating with the likes of talented vocalists SUMIN, Sogumm, and Jade.

The opener track ‘Sleep Tight’ settles into a laid-back atmosphere while Sogumm’s mesmerizing voice hovers over chopped up vocal samples. There’s something about her languid, almost effortless singing style and pitched down voices that keeps me coming back to this track. The album’s recurring theme reaches its peak at the title track ‘Jamais Vu’, where singer/songwriter SUMIN sings about the mysterious phenomenon. Hazy atmospheric soundscapes, catchy melodies coupled up with simple repeated lyrics, easily makes this track a gem anyone would be happy to listen to on repeat. Video for ‘Jamais Vu’ is scheduled to be released tomorrow.
