PREMIERE: BALTRA ‘SUPREME’

Baltra will release his debut album, ‘Ted’, on 19th July via his own 96 and Forever Records.

Having risen to prominence during the hay-day lo-fi house around 2015, the US DJ/producer has since proved himself to be far more versatile an artist than the genre’s initial burst would have suggested.

‘Ted’, a 15-track collection named after his father who unexpectedly passed away last year, finds Baltra exploring everything from atmospheric house, breaks and drum & bass to lush ambience and electro. It’s an accomplished and full listening experience that, despite its length, doesn’t drag. Rather, its drifts and swerves across its stylistic spectrum with perfect balance of gentleness and verve.

Case in point, ‘Supreme’, the album’s third track, is urgent and bouncy with a rich acid bass groove and syrupy melody, while retaining a dusty emotive backbone with its whispered vocal and atmosphere. Check it out below.

“The album went through many phases,” Baltra has said of ‘Ted’. “But in the end staying true to my emotions along this whirlwind of a ride seemed like the proper way to do it rather than to conceptualize something that I couldn’t even put into words at the time. With this record I’ve aimed to really bring the listener into my world – into my audio landscape.”
