Seoul Community Radio to Celebrate 3 Years on Air with ‘Online Radio in Asia’ Photo Exhibition & Popup

Exhibition & party charters the growth of Asia’s dance music communities through photos and interactive elements from over 12 leading regional radio platforms

Korean underground radio station Seoul Community Radio (SCR) will host a special exhibition showcasing the boom in Asian online radio in recent years as part of the station’s own 3rd anniversary celebrations.

The exhibition features submissions from India’s Boxout FM, Hong Kong’s Fauve Radio and HKCR, Block FM and TCR from Japan, Thailand’s Sabai Sabai, Singapore Community Radio, Shanghai Community Radio and Taipei Community Radio as well as Korean specialists Puppy Radio, Kammer Radio and Scramble Radio.

Three years ago underground radio stations were nascent in Asia, however the growth of the overall dance music scene in the region since then has led to a flourishing of community based radios in major cities, taking inspiration from stations like NTS, Red Light Radio and now defunct Berlin Community Radio.

The event aims to spotlight the importance of these home-grown community radios as representing a ‘pirate radio’ ethos, giving new artists an opportunity to play at a time where dance music in the region is maturing and also commercializing.

SCR 3YR will also feature sets from 31 SCR residents and a brand new SCR merch collection. DJ’s will be playing special ‘B23’ sets with groups of 3 playing in 1 hour blocks – also livestreamed in association with streaming site Dailymotion on SCR’s website.

The event is Free Entry (with suggested donation of 5,000 KRW + thank you pack) with the proceeds going to supporting the growth of new talent within Seoul’s underground dance music community.
