DATA OF 64,000 TOMORROWLAND ATTENDEES STOLEN IN ONLINE HACK

Data and personal information of 64,000 attendees of Tomorrowland’s 2014 festival has been stolen in a recent online hack.

As reported in De Standaard, suspicious activity was noticed in an old online server used for Tomorrowland ticket sales. While the affected systems were promptly shut down, the hackers were, according to the report, able to retrieve the names, addresses, emails, ages, postcodes and genders of 64,000 of that year’s 360,000 visitors.

While the information obtained did not include payment details, bank information or passwords, the concern expressed in the report is that the data is sufficient for the committing of identity theft or fraud.

“The managers of the Paylogic ticketing system noticed some unusual activity on an older system,” spokesperson Debby Wilmsen told De Standaard. “After careful analysis it appeared that an old database from Tomorrowland 2014 was concerned. The server in question was immediately taken offline.”

“We ask to be vigilant when receiving e-mails about ticket sales, promotions or other addressees that do not come from official Paylogic or Tomorrowland communication channels,” Wilmsen added. “All communication from Tomorrowland is led by tomorrowland.com. Links to Tomorrowland ticket sales can only be found via my.tomorrowland.com or official travel partners.”

Those affected by the hack have reportedly been contacted by Tomorrowland.

Tomorrowland will be continuing in earnest despite this troubling occurrence. The behemoth festival recently announced the first headliners of its Winter edition taking place next March, including Armin van Buuren, Martin Garrix, Nervo and Kölsch.
